Casella, a native of Oxford, Iowa, joined the University of Iowa Athletic Training staff in June 2017. She served as an assistant athletic trainer with women's rowing until July 2021, and is now the athletic trainer for women’s swimming and diving.

In May 2014, Casella completed a bachelor of science degree in athletic training with a minor in psychology from the University of Iowa. She earned a master of science degree in health and kinesiology from Purdue University where she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer with men’s and women’s track and field, football, and spirit squad. After receiving her master’s degree, Casella became an assistant athletic trainer at Purdue with its men’s and women’s track and field team.
