Biography

Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Andy Peterson is a team physician for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Director of Primary Care Sports Medicine.
 
Dr. Peterson was born in Frederic, Wisconsin. He did his undergraduate training and wrestled at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He did his medical training at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and stayed in Madison for his Pediatrics residency training and fellowship training in Sports Medicine. He also completed a research fellowship as part of a National Research Service Award and completed a Masters of Science in Population Health.
 
Dr. Peterson is Clinical Associate Professor in the UI Department of Pediatrics. He works clinically at the UI Sports Medicine Center.  His primary clinical interests are care of the medically complex child, adaptive exercise, overuse injuries in endurance athletes and concussion management. He does research on concussions and injury epidemiology in young football players.

Dr. Peterson is married to another UI physician, Dr. Vanessa Curtis, who is a Pediatric Endocrinologist.
