Dr. Thomsen is a native of Mason City, Iowa. He received an undergraduate degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He attended medical school at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He subsequently completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the University of Iowa in 2015 and completed his fellowship in primary care sports medicine fellow for the University of Iowa Athletics and Regina High School. He currently is a physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Orthopedics.

Thomsen participates as a team physician for the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams, and women’s volleyball at the University of Iowa.
